What is VCODE number?

In an effort to protect your security online, Visa requires the use of your card's 3-Digit Vcode number, a security feature on the back of all Visa cards that helps prevent fraud. If the number is not supplied the order will be declined by VISA.

This three-digit value provides a cryptographic check of the information embossed on the card.

Where is the Vcode Located?
The Vcode three-digit value is printed on the signature panel on the back of Visa & MasterCard cards.  Sometimes it is printed by itself, and sometimes immediately following the card account number.

The Vcode value helps validate that:

  • the customer has the actual card in his/her possession, and
  • the card account is legitimate.

The Vcode is printed only on the back of the card—it is not contained in the magnetic stripe information nor does it appear on sales receipts.
